The test is designed to detect IgG antibodies against the virus that causes COVID-19 infection. These antibodies can begin being made by the body as early as 7-10 days after symptoms start. The IgG antibody remains in the blood even after the infection has resolved. This test can not tell us if you currently have COVID-19 infection but rather tells us if you may have been infected in the recent past. At this time it is unknown how much protection having these antibodies may provide against future COVID-19 infection.
